BYOD iPad Program: Minimum Requirements & Setup Instructions

iPad Minimum Requirements for 2025
To participate in the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program, students must have an iPad running iOS 15 or above. This ensures compatibility with the latest apps and school systems.

  • Check iPad Software Version:
To verify your iPad's iOS version, go to Settings > General > About > Software Version.

  • Recommended iPad Models:
Any iPad that supports iOS 15 or later is suitable for the program. We recommend purchasing a new iPad if needed, available from retailers like JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, or Apple.

Note: iPads running iOS 15 or higher will be supported and continue to receive Apple’s active software updates, ensuring access to the latest apps from the App Store.

iPad Setup: Preparing the Device for School Use

Before your child’s iPad can connect to the school network, you’ll need to complete the following steps at home.

  1. Enroll the iPad in the School Network
To ensure the iPad can access the school Wi-Fi securely, follow the steps below to enroll the device.

    • Visit the setup link: School Network Setup
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the Wi-Fi settings and ensure safe internet access.
  2. Apple ID Setup
To download and use school-approved apps, your child will need an Apple ID.

    • Create an Apple ID:
This step only needs to be done once. Use your child’s school email address and your mobile phone number.

    • Family Sharing Settings:
If you have Family Sharing enabled on your Apple account, make sure to turn off the “Approve to Buy” feature. This allows your child to download free apps without parental approval.

Note: All apps used at school are free, and any purchased apps will be provided at no cost.

iPad Restrictions and Screen Time Settings

To ensure the iPad is used effectively for learning, please ensure that Screen Time restrictions and other parental controls are disabled. This will allow your child to use their device without interruptions from restrictions.

  • Disable Screen Time Restrictions:
Go to Settings > Screen Time, and turn off any restrictions that might limit app usage or device access.

If you have concerns about your child’s iPad usage, please reach out to the classroom teacher to discuss available options. Teachers are well-equipped to provide advice on managing device usage effectively.
